  • Community Legal Service Quality Mark - information about the standards for organisations providing information, general help and specialist help.

  • Community Learning Resource - resources, information and advice for teaching and learning, skills development, technical guidance and leadership and management for Adult and Community Learning (ACL).

  • Communities Online Forum - UK site, articles, events, FAQs, links and publications.

  • Community Accounting Plus - a very useful online resource for voluntary organisations with guidance on specific financial guidance and also on financial responsibilities. It's even fun to read!


  • Community Development Exchange - includes strategic framework for community development, community worker survey, glossary of terms, news and consultations, events and good links.

  • Community Development Foundation - key information on community development resources, policies and theories.

  • Community Matters - National Federation of Community Organisations - information sheets, online discussion group through SmartGroups.

  • Community Research and Development Information Service - Europe.

  • Community Training and Enabling - designed to support housing association residents in England to develop new training and community development projects, includes advice on planning a project and applying for a grant.

  • Community Work resources - SOSIG - articles and reports, books, educational materials, government publications, mailing lists and organisations (UK).

  • Crime Concern - national crime reduction organisation and registered charity, providing support to professional and voluntary agencies to support reduction of crime and fear of crime within local communities. It also runs over 60 projects across England and Wales, many of which are youth and neighbourhood-focused. Site includes news, publications, briefing papers, case studies, resource packs, guides and volunteer information.

  • Directory of Social Change - key publications on charities and trusts, also training events.

  • Ethnic Minority Foundation - Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations - volunteer opportunities with the group as a mentor, in community work and with the organisation.

  • Idealist.org - large international site with information on and for voluntary organisations.

  • Infed - includes wide range of theoretical issues, key texts, courses and methodologies relating to adult and community education, youth and community work and community development, including information and bibliographies.

  • Legal update for voluntary organisations - really useful set of factsheets on key legal issues with an email update available.

  • Media Trust - useful online checklists on dealing with the media, including writing a press release, undertaking a design project and website checklists.

  • National Association for Community Mediation - a membership organization comprised of community mediation centers, their staff and volunteer mediators, and other individuals and organizations interested in the community mediation movement, site includes news and links.

  • NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action) - information on your local CVS, press releases, online information including mileage rates. Information mainly for CVS organisations.

  • NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations) - voice of the voluntary section, useful links section, advice and information (UK site).

  • Older and Bolder - learning and very useful links for older adults, from NIACE.

  • ProHelp - national network of professional firms offering free support to the voluntary sector, established by Business in the Community, information for each region of the UK.

  • PQASSO - quality assurance system for small and medium voluntary organisations, self-assessment tool.

  • Psychology of Virual Communities - articles, discussion groups, links to journals and magazines and links to other sites and organisations, covering research and psychology of virtual communities, delivery of psychological services by the net and people involved in researching cyberspace.

  • Quest-net - networking and information services for community activists, includes online news services, information for individuals, on improving communities and on issues affecting neighbourhoods, also conference information, exchange visits, support for community newsletters (subscription required), discussion boards and links.

  • Radical Statistics Group - promotes use of statistics to inform not to drive policies, online articles and information on publications, search by subjects and by journal date, news, links and discussion group.

  • Samaritans - Festival branch - a 24 hour Samaritan service provided for festivals and events, site has information about the service and volunteers, also festival and other links.

  • Scottish Community Development Centre - includes details of community development evaluation project.

  • Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations - includes information, policy, research, news, IT and project information, training and jobs.

  • The Virtual Volunteering project - US site, encouraging volunteering through the use of the Internet and a home or work computer. Advice and resources for agencies and volunteers.

  • VolResource - basic information, briefings and links to information for voluntary and community organisations including information sources, service providers, training and events, employment, campaigning and informing, specialist areas and a wide variety or briefing papers and case studies for organisations. Also, a weekly emailed newsletter, free to voluntary organisations.

  • VolunteersOnline - Canadian online resource site for voluntary organisations, covering useful IT and IT supported management and strategic issues.

  • Workwithus.org - Scotland's portal to the voluntary sector, includes section for volunteers, other specialist sectors, news and discussion forum.

  • ARVAC - Association of Research in the Voluntary and Community Sector - promotes effective community action through research (UK).

  • Association of British Credit Unions - find your local credit union, information sheets and statistics, events and training, news and discussion forum for members.

  • Building Communities - US theories and projects.

  • British Urban Regeneration Association - membership information, awards and selected information (UK).

  • Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion - huge resource for advisers, including news, research, government policies, benefits, New Deal, to name just a few areas!

  • Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) - the regeneration network - information on their services and publications.

  • Centre for Neighbourhood Research (CNR) - research programme information, Neighbourhood Question Bank based on major national and sub national Social Surveys since 1990, news and international links.

  • Communities for Health - network of community health related websites.

  • Criminal Records Bureau - "to help organisations make safer recruitment decisions.   • www.theory.org.uk - the media theory site - a fun way to keep up to date, at a website dealing with the relationship between the mass media and people's identities, genders and everyday lives. Site includes good quiz, art ideas, trading cards and sections on role models, queer theory, gender, identity, media effects, Adorno, Judith Butler, Foucault and Gramsci and a random module catalogue for communications courses.

  • UK Social Investment Forum - promoting and encouraging socially responsible investment in the UK including ethical investment, green investment, shareholder activism, social banking and community finance, site has policy and briefing papers on the issues.

  • European Training for Staff in Adult Education - opportunity to develop skills outside of the UK in areas e.g. teaching and methodology, coaching or counselling skills, understanding adult education in Europe, or managing European projects, up to €1500, Grundtvig training grants open to anyone involved in the delivery of adult education: teachers, trainers, managers, counsellors, mentors and union learning representatives.

  • Futurebuilders Fund - funds for voluntary and community sector organisations to help deliver services.

  • Institute of Fundraising - promoting good practice in fundraising, routes to certification and new codes of practice.

  • National Lottery Awards Search - search for awards granted in your area; recent awards or those granted for a specific date; awards granted for a particular project; whether a specific award has been granted.

  • New Opportunities Fund - grants to health, education and environment projects throughout the UK.
