Curriculum

Examining Boards & qualifications
  • AQA (The Assessment & Qualifications Alliance) - (AEB, NEAB, SAG, City & Guilds), providing GCSE, A level, GNVQ, NVQs & other vocational qualifications awards in England, Wales & Northern Ireland. Site includes syllabuses, support material, exhibitions & conferences.

  • Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music - information on exams, syllabuses, news, publications & teacher support.

  • CCEA (Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment) - primary to 16-19 curriculum & examinations, including syllabuses & publications.

  • City & Guilds - includes information on C&G & Pitman qualifications, FAQs, training & consultancy, information on the development of key skills diagnostic tool (level 1 - 4) & key skills training for college staff and NEBS management information.

  • EDEXCEL - (fusion of BTEC & London Examinations) includes a students' section with range of information, including qualifications explained, course search for Edexcel courses (only!), UCAS link. Also a section for providers of education & training, including international contacts at Edexcel, FAQs and basic course information including NVQ units.

  • Examination Appeals Board - an independent body. The EAB is the final stage of the Enquiries & Appeals process. The earlier stages are carried out by the awarding body responsible for the examination. The awarding bodies are AQA, CCEA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. The EAB hears final appeals on Entry Level, GCSE, foundation and intermediate GNVQ, VCE and GCE AS and A level examinations.   • International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) - includes details of diploma, middle years & primary programmes, also online curriculum centre.

  • Joint Council for General Qualifications - The Joint Council for General Qualifications (JCGQ) was established in January 1999 & comprises the Unitary Awarding Bodies: AQA (the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance) Edexcel (incorporating BTEC and London Examinations) OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations) together with: CCEA (the Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment) WJEC (the Welsh Joint Education Committee).

  • Joint Council for Qualifications - representing major awarding bodies for schools and colleges.

  • Joint Examining Board (JEB) - awards for teacher training, continuing professional development.

  • LCCIEB Examinations Board - mainly NVQs & business qualifications.

  • National Open College Network - national organisation, accrediting regional open college networks which provide accreditation & support for local learning, includes links to networks, news, qualifications & programmes.

  • Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment (CCEA) - primary to 16-19 curriculum & examinations, including syllabuses & publications.

  • OCR - NVQs, GCSEs, basic skills, AS, A-levels, AVCs, teaching qualifications, previously RSA & UCLES, Oxford & Cambridge, Midland Examining Boards.

  • openQUALS - QCA's database of accredited qualifications for schools & colleges.

  • Open University accreditation - includes validation for Higher Education courses, including NVQs & SVQs , in Management, Training and Development, Broadcast, Film, Video & Interactive Media, Advice, Guidance & Counselling, Transportation, Forensic Science, Engineering Technology Management, also research degrees.

  • QCA - Qualifications & Curriculum Authority- regulates awarding bodies for GCSE, A-level & vocational qualifications.

  • Qualifications for Industry (QFI) - NVQs & SVQs in manufacturing, land-based sector, providing goods & services, training & development, key skills & cultural heritage.

  • Welsh Joint Education Committee - includes contacts for NVQs and Examinations Board information.
Curriculum information
  • Access courses from UCAS - the main aim of Access programmes is to prepare adult learners from non-traditional backgrounds & under-represented groups for admission to undergraduate education (degrees, HNDs, Foundation degrees & other Higher Education qualifications)
    This database includes all the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) recognised Access programmes.The database includes more than 1000 Access programmes that are recognised and registered by QAA.

  • Children & families - DfES information including national occupational standards, Sure Start information & other services & information for children & families.

  • Curriculum 2000 - from the LSDA, materials, support & development work, news, information, links & references, also information on National Qualifications framework
  • ECTS - European Credit Transfer System - project information about transfer of higher education learning units across Europe.

  • Education-line - UK site for huge number of online documents on education & training, including vocational education & training bibliography, education research, conference reports, submissions to consultations, articles, etc. search by index, thesaurus and database.

  • Electronic Training Village - includes European study visits for vocational training, transparency of qualifications & implications for CVs ( information on the European Forum on Transparency of Vocational Qualifications), also other resources & reports on vocational education.

  • ENIC-NARIC networks - information on the recognition of foreign qualifications including contact information for advice & links to relevant organisations.

  • Europe Open for Professions - information about the recognition of vocational & professional qualifications in Europe, includes Directives, member state contacts & information about specific professions.

  • The European Choice - a guide to opportunities for Higher Education in Europe - general guide to opportunities in Higher Education in Europe, including HE systems in Europe, grants & loans for UK students, EU programmes, recommended addresses & books and UK government (DfES) site.

  • FERL (FE Resources for Learning) - online magazine, subject resources, information on learning technologies e.g. intranets & videoconferencing, useful college case studies and FE links.

  • Foundation Degree website - information & resources on employment-related & higher education qualifications.

  • Getting Connected - new curriculum for mentors & advisors working with young people.

  • Glossary of educational terms & approaches - very useful & understandable selection of educational terms and theories used in learning approaches & methodologies, including learning cycles & skills, accelerated learning, multiple intelligence, experiential learning, mind mapping, thinking hats, transferable skills, learning styles & more from Bradford College.

  • Parent Centre - information on learning in the UK for all age groups, from the DfES.

  • Skills for Business - links to Skills Sector Councils & information on skills development & labour market intelligence.

  • QCA (Qualifications & Curriculum Authority) - information about qualifications in the UK, including types of qualifications, accreditation, subjects & sector information & a database of accredited qualifications online.

  • Qualifications for schools & colleges - from the DfES, including 14 - 19 curriculum, A levels, GCSEs, GCSEs in vocational subjects, qualications framework, curriculum 2000, vocational A levels, work related learning, qualifying for success, AS qualifications, advanced extension awards (AEAs), new key skills units.   • SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) - useful Scottish links, qualifications information, progression routes/careers & jobs by curriculum area, links to awarding bodies.

  • UK education and training systems - general information about school based, further & higher education systems in the UK, from the British Council.

  • Vocational Training in Europe - the Electronic Training Village - resources & discussions on European training issues, information on study visits, CEDEFOP information.
