  • Advisory Centre for Computers in Education - services to schools in Wales.

  • BECTa - key site for UK schools and colleges, including resources, information sheets, news and links.

  • CHEST - obtaining software and technology for the UK academic community, including products, agreements and training.

  • Computers for Teachers Initiative - Scotland - rebates for teachers, information about the Scottish scheme.

  • Center for Instructional Technology - US site, exploring the use of Internet, video and distance learning projects at UNC-CH, includes online articles and references, tools for teaching, archive of Infobits (no longer published), University of North Carolina.

  • Educause - US site supporting the use of information technology in higher education, covering a range of learning and student support strategies and practices.

  • FERL (FE Resources for Learning) - includes online magazine, subject resources, section on learning technologies e.g. intranets and videoconferencing, useful college case studies and FE links.

  • Guidelines for Educational Uses of Networks - links to articles and resources for teachers.

  • Guides for distance learning providers - from University of Idaho, including learning strategies, evaluation, research, technology and copyright issues.

  • Hairnet - IT training for over 50's, with an online community with discussions, news and features.

  • ICDL (International Centre for Distance Learning) - Open University - UK and international course database, (not just degree courses!), articles, bibliographies, research, conferences and journals.

  • Institute for Educational Technology (Open University) - courses, research and development of technology in education.

  • Institute for Learning and Research Technology - at the University of Bristol, includes information on projects.

  • ITrain - free internet training materials, including module on search engines, available in English, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.

  • JANET National User Group - represents the views and concerns of people who use the national academic network, JANET, to those who are responsible for its funding
    There are also regional and special interest groups.

  • JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) - 3 year strategy - policy for Distributed National Electronic Resource (DNER). Users are students and staff in Further and Higher Education Institutions and the Research Councils. JISC is a strategic advisory committee working on behalf of the funding bodies for higher and further education (HE and FE) in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and works in partnership with the Research Councils. It promotes the innovative application and use of information systems and information technology in HE and FE across the UK strategically and by funding the network infrastructure, including Communications and Information Technology (CandIT) and information services, development projects and high quality materials for education. Provides publications and training, infrastructure and support services.

  • KMI (Knowledge Media Institute) - at the Open University, research into technology and learning.

  • Learning Styles and the use of technology - summary of some models of learning styles, applying them to learning and technology and the use of the Internet for learning.

  • Learning Technologies site - Ezine, learning materials, reports, events, college projects, linked sites, European links, ILT standards (from Learning and Skills Development Agency).

  • MET (Multimedia Enabling Technologies Group) - information technology for teaching and learning, including guidelines for the production of multimedia teaching materials accessible for disabled students.

  • National Association for Co-ordinators and Teachers of IT - mainly in UK schools, site includes an model acceptable use policy for schools.

  • Netskills - Internet training for the UK academic community, includes online resources, tutorials and teaching materials.

  • Networking - bi-monthly bulletin on distance education and learning technologies (from the Node).

  • NILTA (National Information and Learning Technologies Association) - development and promotion of information and learning technology in FE, including news, information technology issues for colleges and events.

  • The NODE: technologies for learning - key site includes discussion and analysis of learning technology for providers, including practitioners' experience, reviews, special topics, a learner support section for students which includes useful links to reducing physical stress from computer use.

  • Office of Science and Technology - UK govt site.

  • Online Education and Training - Internet resources on educational applications of interactive communications, including events, journals, also access to Onlearn-l; an email discussion group on electronic learning, provided from De Montfort University.

  • SCET (Scottish Council for Educational Technology) - information on services to Scotland and curriculum links.

  • Society for Technical Communications (US site) - includes links to international educational technology resources.

  • Teachers Evaluating Educational Multimedia - case studies, teachers' evaluations and publishers' product information.

  • Teaching with Electronic Technology - a useful set of links on teaching and the Internet at school, college and university level.

  • Technology Education Index - UK site, includes information resources, links, general issues, staff handbook including policy statements and acceptable use policies, many useful links and documents especially for technology education in schools.

  • Technology Enhancement Programme - UK site, supporting and improving the teaching and learning of technology in schools and colleges, includes reports of schools curriculum projects, professional development opportunities, regional events, resources for technology education.

  • The Technology Source - an online journal with articles dealing with the "challenge of integrating information technology tools into teaching and into managing educational organizations" e.g teaching methods, distance learning, online quality relationships, online course materials, useful online tools for educators, and more. Includes UK and international experiences and articles.

  • UK National Inventory Project - national inventory of Information Superhighways projects and activities, including telematics projects for education, information, disability, and range of other uses.
