Educational grants and charitable trusts

There are a range of organisations that may provide higher education students with extra financial help.

These are normally referred to as educational trusts and charities, and the finance they provide can be on top of any student loan, grants, bursary or scholarship you may receive.

Hotcourses compile a directory of such funding awards here.

In addition, The Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) offer students, especially disadvantaged students, expert guidance and advice to enable them to secure funding for education and training.

You can also find information at most public libraries. Useful publications include:

  • The Educational Grants Directory
  • The Charities Digest
  • The Grants Register
  • Directory of Grant Making Trusts

Your student advisor at college or university can tell you more about applying for help from trusts and charities.

You can contact EGAS, c/o The Family Welfare Association, 501-505 Kingsland Road, Dalston, London, E8 4AU or call +44 (0)20 7254 6251 or visit the website.

Plus, as part of the Socrates-Erasmus programme of European study, mobility grants are provided for eligible students who want to follow a part of their higher education course in one of the 31 countries taking part in the scheme.
