Student loans

Student loans an increasingly essential resource for students to fund themselves.

Students can apply for a student loan for maintenance and/or a student loan for fees from September 2006.

These are administered by Student Finance Direct, a service managed by the Student Loans Company in partnership with local authorities and the Department for Education and Skills.

Each year, a maximum loan entitlement is set, a proportion of which is means-tested by application to your local education authority (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland), or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).

Within this limit, you can decide how much you want to borrow.

More detailed information on student loans can be found on the HERO website.
